Want a little murder, magic and music with your meal? The Haunted Dinner Theatre at Captain George's is the place to find it all. Let yourself go and participate in the fun and the feast ­ there is an all-you-can-eat buffet, and you are right in the middle of all the festivities. The plays (one previous show was called "Good Will Haunting") are fun and lowbrow, and lots of families enjoy them. For an unusual evening at a fixed price, this is a good option. They only present the plays spring through fall, so call ahead for times and availability.

COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG. Though it no longer serves food, this cozy tavern harkens back to the Colonial days by offering a full slate of nightly gambols. What's a gambol? Gambols are fun, bawdy games and songs that were popular in 18th century taverns and pubs. Patrons are encouraged to participate ­ so order up a house ale and enjoy the scene. As for the atmosphere, the old pine floors, rustic walls and primitive furnishings will leave you wondering: Will Josiah himself make an appearance tonight? The gambols usually start around 9pm.

Comedy, mystery and a four-course dinner are the highlights at this dinner playhouse. Actors play double duty as waiters, and that gives the audience a chance to quiz them about suspects. There is a cash bar for those who think some adult libations will help their sleuthing skills. It is fun (a lot of the hilarity comes from the audience) and campy ­ a unique experience!

Since 1957, the Williamsburg Players have been producing five or six shows each season in their 115-seat theater. Their plays are a mixture of the well known and the avant-garde, and the acting goes way beyond what is found in many local volunteer theater ensembles.
